Comment about something you found interesting on blogs from
the chapter readings that you were not aware of before?
The most interesting thing I found out is that the Blog has become a teaching tool across the curriculum in all subjects. Students can work on Math problems with peers of other classes. Science experiments can be run concurrently across the country or around the world student researchers comparing and reflecting on the results on a weblog. (Richardson, 2010) Students create language conversations with native speakers, in Physical Education; they analyze their workouts or diets. Then in History, students construct resource sites for their study of ancient civilizations and conflicts. In Music, the students create a blog by picking a musical instrument they are considering playing in band. Students research the history of the instrument, link to sound files of the instrument, as well as use pictures and link to videos of how to play the instrument. Purchasing price, as well as other pros and cons can be explored. I had no idea; I could do all that using the blog, interesting!

DeleteWhich comment is that, as a matter of fact,I am seeing you on my blog for the first time.I don't know what you are talking about.I would love you to comment on my blog as much as you want.

Hi Sweetmore,
DeleteLast weekend, I wrote a response to this discussing blogging across the curriculum, but it's not there anymore. I assumed that it was the one that was removed, but now after looking back at Maureen's page, I see that my comments were somehow not showing up. I see the comments on the page when I'm done, but after coming back to the page, they are not there anymore. It's really weird... I hope it works this time. I am saving my responses on a document just in case so I don't have to write them again.
Sorry it looks like I'm not posting on your page, I promise I did a nice long response last weekend and am going to again now... :)
Thanks,
Andrea
Inform parents of procedures and secure parental permission.Teach students safe, acceptable, and sensible behavior as online authors and readers. This is important because blogging would need more preparations/practice to be done at hand and this includes time for blogging, setting Terms and Conditions which involve students, parents and the administrations agreement. Also making sure, students stay on assigned and safe sites.
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetmore,
DeleteI agree that blogging across the curriculum is a very effective way to use the tool. You have shared many great examples of how to do that in many subject areas. It is great to know that with a simple blog, we are able to connect students with others across the world. What teachers are doing with the technology available to them is awesome and very admirable! They are connecting teachers and students around the world and making the most of what there is to learn from one another. Even for teachers that are new to blogging and do not know where to begin, there are plenty of great examples and global projects that are already active that we can ‘jump on the bandwagon’ instead of worrying about ‘recreating the wheel’.
With the example that you mentioned, even if we don’t find the time to create and use our own blog in the classroom, just introducing students to blogs and blogging will open doors for them to find a subject or hobby that interests them and be able to follow it. You also mentioned parental involvement and terms and conditions to implement with students. This is the part that can be tricky with having students get involved with blogging.
Great ideas and information! Thank you for sharing!

DeleteI enjoyed reading your long response which is very informative.I'm glad you like the idea of blogging across the curriculum because it brings variety in your lessons. As they say, Variety is the spice of life" and that is what motivates students.Anything new will bring their spirits high and they will be ready to learn.Setting Terms and Conditions which involve students, parents and the administrations is very important to protect the students from cyber predictors.Thank for collaborating.
Sweetmore,
ReplyDeleteI think that blogging across all curriculum areas is a great way to use them. I think that this is probably a concept that has not caught on in many schools. This is most likely because not many teachers are there yet with their technology knowledge. It would be a great if they were. In fact, I think we need to be so that students are prepared for what is to come in technology.
I found the part about students tracking their workouts and diets in Physical Education interesting. I never thought of that! What a great idea!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are for blogging across the curriculum too.If students are introduced to blogging in different subjects it brings a lot of variety in their lessons instead of doing the same old traditional method.Students are full of stories to share and this would be very interesting and an appropriate platform for them.I liked your response, thank you.
